Bingham Cup | Sydney, Australia | August 24 – 31, 2014
In August, member clubs of the International Gay Rugby Association and Board will congregate in Sydney, Australia for the biennual Bingham Cup, a tournament held in honour of Mark Bingham. This is the first time in many years that the tournament will host competition for women. Bingham Cup VII also marks the third time the Ottawa Wolves attend this tournament, having played in both Manchester, UK and Minneapolis, USA in years prior.
But more importantly, it will be the first time we travel across the globe to compete alongside our she-wolves.
The Ottawa Wolves form a Rugby Football Club for men and women in Canada’s National Capital Region. The Club was founded by Carl Pilon and Jay Smidt in 2008 with the mission to promote and encourage participation in rugby among those who have traditionally been under-represented in the game. The team is predominantly gay, but diverse in its make-up, and inclusive of everyone.
The club is a proud member of the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union (EORU) where we field a side in both the senior men and senior women divisions.
We're working hard to bring as many Wolves with us as possible. Current and returning players are asked to fill in their availability in TeamSnap for the Bingham Cup. Information about flights, accommodations, registration and financial support will be shared through TeamSnap over the coming weeks and months.
If you're interested in playing with us at the Bingham Cup and want to join the Ottawa Wolves, please contact Jerome at recruiting@ottawawolves.ca. We're always looking for new players; men and women, young and old, big and small. Don't worry if you've never played the sport. Rugby is a dynamic game with 15 different positions that all require varying degrees of strength, determination, agility and speed. Outdoor practices will resume in April and all new recruits are invited to join at anytime!
